A Word from Keith Haygood
There’s something about God and Country.
These are interesting days to be an American and a follower of Christ. Our founding fathers realized the importance of God’s blessing upon our nation and even weaved the Word of God throughout many important documents that laid the foundation upon which we stand.
 
There’s something about God and Country.
Of the 55 men who signed the Declaration of Independence, 52 were deeply committed Christians.
 
There’s something about God and Country.
Patrick Henry, who is called the firebrand of the American Revolution, is still remembered for his words, "Give me liberty or give me death"; but in current textbooks, the context of these words is omitted. Here is what he actually said: "An appeal to arms and the God of hosts is all that is left us. But we shall not fight our battle alone. There is a just God that presides over the destinies of nations. The battle, sir, is not to the strong alone. Is life so dear or peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it Almighty God. I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death."
 
Let it be known to all: There’s something about God and Country.

What’s So Amazing About Grace? by Phillip Yancey
 
In 1987, an IRA bomb buried Gordon Wilson and his twenty-year-old daughter beneath five feet of rubble. Gordon alone survived. And forgave. He said of the bombers, “I have lost my daughter, but I bear no grudge… I shall pray, tonight and every night, that God will forgive them. His words caught the media’s ears – and out of one man’s grief, the world got a glimpse of grace. In What’s So Amazing About Grace? award-winning author Philip Yancey explores grace at street level. If grace is God’s love for the undeserving, he asks, then what does it look like in action? And if Christians are its sole dispensers, then how are we doing at lavishing grace on a world that knows far more of cruelty and unforgiveness than it does of mercy? Grace does not excuse sin, says Yancey but it treasures the sinner. True grace is shocking, scandalous. It shakes our conventions with its insistence of getting close to sinners and touching them with mercy and hope.
 
 
Oklahoma Baptist All-State Utah 2008
We are now planning the Oklahoma Baptist All-State 2008 tour to Utah. Oklahoma’s finest young people will be working with Southern Baptist associations and congregations to tell the story of Jesus. In preparation for the tour, we are currently conducting vocal and instrumental auditions.
Audition Opportunities:

 
· Falls Creek – Thursdays, 2:00 – 4:00 PM in the cafeteria (during all youth weeks)
· Singing Churchmen of Oklahoma concerts – check website for locations, auditions can be heard from 3:00pm-5:00pm at the concert location
· CMO 2007 – Worship & Arts Expo – August 3-4, Moore, First
· Make an appointment to audition at the Baptist Building in Oklahoma City

Coming August 1st: Suddenly, A Song! This is the second installment of our seasonal musicals designed for bi-vocational and smaller in attendance churches. Suddenly, A Song! will touch your people in a very personal way as they look at the story of Christ’s birth through the eyes of Mary, the Shepherds, Simeon, and Zechariah. This musical will be premiered and released at Church Music Oklahoma – Worship & Arts Expo on August 3, 4 and will be available free of charge at www.bgco.org . Included in the package is all print music, dramatic monologues, demo recording and accompaniment tracks.
 
 
Artists’ Corner:

New from Ryland Russell: Waking Up to Dream is a project that was born of the notion that God still works miracles in our lives today. From tracks such as "All I Need" which tells of God using a personal tragedy to remind us of how he provides for us, to "Name Be Praised" which is a worship song proclaiming the power in the names of our Lord. There is the re-arranged "A Thousand Singing" which goes back to the beautiful hymn that is a cornerstone in our faith, to "Beliefs" which explains the small things that Christians argue about. There is truly a song for every taste and style and the prayer for each listener is that you may find words that will guide you in your personal worship of the God who "opens up our eyes to see miracles again."
