2010 COUPLES CONFERENCE
Dr. Marshak and Ms. Prezant, the authors of “Married with
Special-
Needs Children”, are combining their years of
experience working with disability and family issues in
order to conduct a workshop developed specifically for
couples raising children with special needs. Although the
main focus is strengthening couples’ relationships, the
workshop will address other aspects of coping with issues
of family life that also greatly impact couples. Participants
will leave the workshop with many new ideas and a range
of practical strategies to use at home to create marital
change without getting overwhelmed.
Dr. Laura Marshak is a professor in the Dept. of
Counseling at Indiana University of Penn. She is a licensed
psychologist and founding partner of North Hills Psychological
Services. She specializes in working with individuals and couples
who are having difficulty coping with the intensified pressures of
raising children with a broad range of disabilities. Dr. Marshak is
on the therapeutic advisory board of the National Autism Associa-
tion and the professional advisor of the Friendship Circle, an
inclusion group for children. She has written seven books on
disability related topics and many journal articles and speaks
nationally and internationally on the topic of marriage and
childhood disability. Dr. Marshak knows the topic of family and
disability from both a personal and professional perspective.
Laura Marshak, Ph.D
Fran Prezant is Senior Vice President of

vania where she taught in the Dept. of Special Education and
developed and administered the Parent Information Project, a
program for parents of children with disabilities. In 1999 Ms.
Prezant joined

Prezant presents at conferences and
workshops and has coauthored many books as well as numerous
